Roland has been responsible for setting up the Solis Marine office in Shanghai in order to develop the company’s shipping incident investigation and casualty response services within China and the wider region.
He brings extensive expertise and command experience in the operations of LPG, chemical gasses and LNG gas carriers in addition to further experience on board bulk tankers and product tankers. He has also sailed on chemical tankers, general cargo vessels, offshore support vessels and ro-ro vessels.
Roland has extensive experience conducting investigations into shipping incidents on behalf of owners, managers, charterers, insurers and law firms, these have included collisions, groundings, cargo disputes, fish farm damage and unsafe port and berth claims. Casualty response work has included attendance at a number of incidents, including numerous vessels damaged during the 2011 tsunami in Japan. He has significant experience of dealing with all aspects of casualty management including first response, salvage, cargo transfer (STS), through to tender and bid evaluation and the monitoring of operations for wreck removal.
In addition to providing a full range of survey services, he has previously been involved in a number of new build disputes as well as assisting vessel operators in dealing with Port State Control (PSC) issues in China.
He has provided expert evidence at arbitration hearings in New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as having appeared as a witness of fact in the London Courts. In addition, his reports have been used in the Ningbo Maritime Court of the P.R. China.
