Naval Architect Jie Zhang joins Solis Marine Engineering in Singapore

Naval Architect Jie Zhang has joined Solis Marine Engineering (SME) in Singapore in the newly created role of Engineering Manager, providing design and analysis services to the offshore, shipping and renewables industries in the region.

Jie brings extensive experience in hydrostatic and hydrodynamic analysis, mooring analysis, engineering design, project management and planning.

He has delivered multiple large-scale permanent installation projects in Europe, Malaysia and Thailand and deep water to ultra-deep water projects in China, with a focus on integrating offshore operational experience with onshore design engineering.

Jie joins SME from InterMoor Pte Ltd, where he worked extensively in design, engineering, operations and client facing roles for mooring designs and large-scale offshore development and installation projects.

These included deep water and tropical storm regions and numerous technically challenging projects. This work involved planning, mobilisation and installation procedures, offshore operations, technical guidance, lifting analyses, towing analysis, sea fastening analysis, mooring and SURF (subsea umbilicals, risers and flowlines) installation operability analysis and operational simulation analysis.

Previous to this, Jie worked as a Naval Architect/Project Engineer at Lloyd’s Register Aberdeen after graduating with a MSc in Marine Engineering from the University of Strathclyde.

SME Singapore Director Ros Blazejczyk said: “Jie joins a growing team of naval architects working on the advancement of technology and design which progresses the development of marine engineering, offshore renewables and the clean shipping agenda. These projects are central to our work in Europe and in Asia.”

Jie Zhang said: “Solis Marine Engineering is an opportunity for me to move from the more conventional big scale oil and gas projects into renewables and green shipping, something which I’m interested to help progress as a naval architect. Solis Marine has some very talented people and I’m pleased to be able to help develop the company wider working with Ros here in Singapore.”

Established in 2018 by Managing Director Simon Hindley, SME provides a range of engineering services to the offshore renewables, oil and gas and shipping industries.

Clients include the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Ocean Infinity, Keynvor Morlift, Armada, Subsea Energy Solutions, WITT, Inyanga, Ballistic RIBS, Makai Ocean Engineering, Parnall, RS Electric Boats and Submarine Technology Ltd.

The company is based in Falmouth, UK and Singapore.
