Introducing Alongside from Solis Marine

Welcome to Alongside by Solis Marine

Welcome to Alongside. Our aim is to share with you what we hope will be interesting and topical technical discussions into developments affecting our industry, case studies that feature our actual work in the field, and insights into how our experts approach instructions on behalf of our clients. We will also take the opportunity to keep you updated on developments within the Solis Marine Group as we continue to expand our team and the range of our services we offer to the market, and we’ll keep you advised of any upcoming Solis Marine events and seminars.

Within this edition Roland Orange, our China Manager based in Shanghai, looks at the increasing number of disputes in the region arising from the loading of steel cargos, and considers some likely causes. Mike Harrison, from our Ports & Harbours Group, looks at fender damage claims and how the quantum of these claims can be managed.

The shipping industry is, as we all know, constantly looking at the use of new technologies to aid both operational efficiencies and, when things go wrong, casualty investigations. Duncan Campbell from our Singapore office discusses our use of heatmaps based on AIS data to analyse vessel traffic flows for various applications.

Elsewhere Simon Hindley, Managing Director of sister company Solis Marine Engineering, reflects on a successful first year in operation.

We do hope that you will find Alongside both useful and informative and we look forward to sharing future editions with you.
