ALONGSIDE – DECEMBER 2019 NEWSLETTER
2019 In Rapid Replay
Welcome to Alongside, the Solis Marine Consultants regular newsletter.
As 2019 draws to a close we begin this edition with our “Review of The Year” and reflect on what has been a busy and eventful 12 months for all our Solis Marine offices thanks to the continuing support of our clients around the world. During the year we also participated in a number of leading industry events, launched new service lines, continued with our programme of recruitment, expanded our global freelancer network, and established a growing reputation for our work using AIS data and also for our work in relation to autonomous shipping.
Earlier in the year, our Singapore Office acted as consultants and advisers on the “Thorco Cloud” wreck removal from the always congested waters around Singapore. Ken Ellam, Solis Marine Partner and our Singapore Country Manager, presents a review of our work on this project.
Then Riccardo Gnocchi, one of our London based Naval Architects, reflects on his attendance at the AIDIM Conference in Genoa which centred on an overview of War Risks and Sanctions. During the conference Riccardo introduced a case study of a tanker coming under attack exiting the Strait of Hormuz for the panel to discuss.
Our work for the MCA on the MARLab project is ongoing, but election purdah rules apply. Sticking with the theme of autonomous vessels, Richard Meikle, Partner and UK General Manager, looks at our attendance at the NOC Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase in Southampton.
Finally, we take the opportunity to introduce Sjoerd Blomsma and Anumitha Sabhanayagam, the latest recruits to our Singapore Office.
That then just leaves me to offer you greetings for the festive season and to wish you all an enjoyable Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Nigel Clark, Chairman
